Principal’s Message

Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to school for a fresh start of the new school year 2017.

I hope you have had a great summer holiday, enjoyed the warm weather and spent some memorable time with your loved ones and families.

I am so delighted to see that when the break ends, the school comes to life, as students, teachers and parents spill into the grounds and buildings, bringing their dreams, expectations and anxieties with them.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new students especially our year 7s and new staff members. I wish them all a smooth and easy transition with the support of this great family of Sirius College.

I also would like to take this opportunity to update the whole school community regarding some changes taken place.

Firstly, school information system SEQTA which enables the College to manage attendance, student behaviour and curriculum mapping, is up and running. You can access almost everything related to any learning program you/your son studying at school through SEQTA. You should check regularly for any update and follow up. SEQTA will also give you the power to monitor the progress throughout the year.

Secondly, I am happy to announce that the new basketball, volleyball and tennis courts are ready to use. I encourage you to make the most of them utilising in the best way you can. We would like to see that you do care and look after the new courts and helping each other to share the new facilities fairly.

From time to time, we conduct surveys about the school. It gives us a bit of understanding how parents, students and staff see the school. If possible, we are able to offer some changes depending on the survey results. This year, we have made a change in the curriculum to offer new LOTE language subjects like French and Arabic besides Turkish for year 7 students. The program will be gradually offered to upper grades in the coming years. I would like to thank every student, parent and staff for their contribution to shape the school by participating in the surveys.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our 2016 graduates on their successful completion of VCE. Once again, they have proven that it is not the chance but the hard work and effort paid back well.

Twenty students from all campuses got an ATAR score above 90 and eleven of them being from our Campus. One of our graduates, Ertugrul Erciyas, managed to score 99.50, which was the highest score for the year 2016. I congratulate Ertugrul on his wonderful success in VCE.

In addition to this two of our campus students, Harun Ergi and Rami Dennaoui got perfect scores 50 out of 50 from Computing and Further Maths respectively. I also congratulate Harun and Rami on their outstanding success. I would like to extend my congratulations to all graduates for their efforts and achievements in 2016 and wish them a great future.

I would like to bring your attention to parent-school partnerships. One of the most important components of a school’s success is having a healthy and supportive communication between families and the school. This positive relationship is one of the key factors that carry students to great achievements. I will kindly ask the caregivers to give importance to this matter and stay connected with school.

The first four weeks of the term signal another busy year for teachers and students.

I wish our students, families, caregivers and staff a great and successful year.

Warm regards,
Omer Ayvaz
Campus Principal
